Watercolor and Pastel Art Classes are available.
Classes are held Tuesday of each month at Hobby Lobby in St Joseph, MO right after 9am when they open until noon. Come join us or contact me [email protected]
$25.00 per class (ongoing as long as you'd like to attend)
These classes teach students how to use various mediums and products. The classes alternate between landscapes and florals: one month students paint a landscape, the following month students paint a floral picture, the next month a landscape and so on. Students may continue classes for as long as they like, paying the $25 fee each class.
Art supplies are NOT provided. Below is a list of suggested materials for students to bring to class:
Pastel Artist Supply List
Box of various colored pastels (your choice of size)
Charcoal pencil
Kneaded eraser
Pencil (soft lead)
Tortillons (paper blenders)
Pastel paper or board medium grit sand paper: green , white or off white ( completed project's approximate size 16x20. Image will be 12x16 for matt of 16x20 with a 2 inch matt width. A half sheet or pastel board will be a frame size of 16x20)
Tissue sheet or light weight paper for protective cover on uncompleted drawing (this is before pastel is sprayed with acrylic)
Prefer (acid free tape)
Foam board slightly larger than 16x20 (covered with contact paper for easy cleaning)
or drawing board
Paper towel or soft cloth
Acrylic clear matt spray paint for final protective cover. Have on hand, but not for class.

Watercolor Transparent paints in a tube:
Grumbacher; VanGogh; Winsor and Newton (Cotman); Rembrandt; Holbein; or DaVinci Purchase at least one of each color group:
Brown: Burnt Umber
Reddish Brown: Raw Sienna
Reds: Aliziran Crimson or Windsor Opera Rose
Yellows: Transparent (and/or) Cad Yellow light (and/or) Yellow Pale
Blues: Ultramarine Blue (and/or) Thalo Blue (and/or) Prussian Blue (and/or) Cobalt Blue
Greens: Sap Green (and/or) Hooker's Green Deep (and/or)Thalo Green
Brushes:
1 liner #0 or #1 or #2
1 round #6 or #8
1 angular . inch
1 wash 1 . or 2 inch
Susan Scheewe is good for beginning brushes. Robert Simmons is very good, but more costly.
Watercolor paper:
Cold press 140 lb. Arches Blocks 9x12 or 10x14 is good to start with or two single sheets that come in 22X30 size and cut into half.
In class we will discuss the variety of brushes and papers and the advantages and disadvantages of both.
Miscellaneous:
Foam board or light weight card-board covered with contact paper slightly larger than painting i.e. (16 x 20). Masonite also will work.
2 small containers for water
Paper towels
Masking tape
1 Sea Sponge
Small palette knife
1 small kneaded eraser and pencil for sketching
Small grid note pad for sketching & layout
Butcher.s tray or a Palette Robert E. Wood with white plastic cover, large wells and a mixing area.
